Commercial or Corporate?
There are a number of significant differences between the role of a commercial flight attendant, compared to a corporate flight attendant. The day to day of a commercial flight attendant has been well documented across multiple online platforms, so I will focus on some of the main points that differ to a commercial flight attendant.
Key differences for corporate flight attendants, include:
- Usually endorsed on only one aircraft type
- Small teams, most cases they are the solo crew member, with potential to have one or two others, depending on the aircraft/company.
- Sometimes corporate flight attendants are flown out to the aircraft to start their shift
- No rosters. Crew can be on permanent standby.
- Catering usually comes from VIP catering services, restaurants etc.
- Sometimes, flight attendants are responsible for planning the meal service onboard depending on the client
- Corporate flight attendants tend to have to clean the aircraft afterwards
- In most cases, a higher salary due to the additional responsibilities required
As with everything, there are pros & cons. Certain skill sets, abilities and personal characteristics are better suited for commercial, and others are better suited for corporate. In either case, hiring requirements don’t differ that greatly however corporate interviews tend to involve multiple panel members.
