Think you’re TOO OLD to apply? Think again…
YOU’VE reached an age where your kids are all grown up, your partner is settled in their career and you’ve got all of this spare time on your hands…a thought that you buried deep in your mind years ago creeps back to the forefront after watching an airplane pass by…’if only I was in my 20’s, I’d live out my dream of being a flight attendant'
You entertain the idea for a brief moment, until that doubt starts to creep in after seeing ‘must be 21 - 30 years old to be considered’. Seeing this time and time again, airline after airline gives you a knock to your confidence and you all but give up on the dream…You’re simply ‘too old’ to crew.
WRONG!
Just because some of the international carriers have strict age requirements, doesn’t mean your dream is over. Legally, you’re able to fly as a flight attendant in Australia as long as you’re able to pass a medical assessment with a DAME (Designated Aviation Medical Expert).
But who’s hiring 40 something year olds or older?
This is where your search needs to change. Many charter companies who operate flights in and out of mine sites (FIFO), remote destinations across the country and ultra short haul international do not set age requirements for their flight attendants. As their operations involve typically between 1-3 flight attendants, the life experience that comes with candidates in their 40’s and beyond is invaluable and regarded in a positive light.
